Initial Tests

In order to find the advantages and disadvantages of ECPC as a construction material, and what it is most effective to be used for, we conducted a series of tests to determine the material’s properties as construction material such as strength. Furthermore, to give a reference to the placement of this material as a construction product while having very limited tools, we tested the material side by side with a few other commonly used materials such as wood and common brick. The tests we did are as follows:


● Strength Test: A sample ECPC, woodblock, and brick with the same dimensions are given weight (being stepped on, etc) until the sample breaks.


●Density Test: A sample ECPC, woodblock, and brick with the same dimensions are weighted with the lowest weight being superior if all other aspects of the tests are equal.


● Water Absorption Test: A sample ECPC, woodblock, and brick with the same dimensions are weighted first in dry condition and then they are fully submerged in water for a few days. After immersion, the samples are collected and weighted again. The difference in weight is considered as the water absorbed by the products. The less it absorbs water, the better.


● Impact Test: Drop all samples from an estimate of 15-meter height and see how they fare.


● Chemical resistance test: A sample ECPC, woodblock, and brick are scrubbed using strong chemicals such as strong household cleaning chemicals to see if there is any stain or changes to the panel test.


● Fire resistance test: All samples are introduced to fire for the same amount of time to see how they fare.
